Staten Island: GI Joe Headquarters

With the popularity of the new GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra movie, I thought I might point out something that most Staten Islander's don't know as a claim to fame: The original headquarters, or "The Pit" as it was called, for GI Joe in the Marvel comic books of the early 80s was not in North Africa as it is in the movie, but right here on Staten Island's Fort Wadsworth under the fictitious Chaplain's Assistant School's motor pool. Here's a pic of what it looked like



Certainly not as elaborate as The Pit in the movie, but hey, Staten Island is where it all began! And knowing is half the battle!
